The four selective entry high schools
Around 1,000 Year 9 places are available each year across the four schools, against roughly 5,000 to 6,000 applicants, an acceptance rate near 16 to 20%. You rank all four schools in preference order, and the process places you at the highest-ranked school where your ranking is competitive.
| School | Notes |
|---|---|
| Melbourne High School (South Yarra) | Boys; generally the highest rankings |
| The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School (Melbourne) | Girls; generally the highest rankings |
| Nossal High School (Berwick) | Co-educational; may take slightly lower percentiles |
| Suzanne Cory High School (Werribee) | Co-educational; may take slightly lower percentiles |
Selection is competitive ranking with no published cut-off score. The exact thresholds move each year with the strength of the cohort. Always confirm the current process with ACER and the Victorian Department of Education.
