About this VIC ATAR calculator
This calculator estimates your VIC VCE ATAR using the VTAC 2025 Scaling Report — the most recent official scaling data available. It covers all major VCE Unit 3–4 subjects, applies the compulsory English rule, and automatically builds your aggregate from your best 4 scaled study scores plus 10% of your 5th and 6th. For the technical detail on how it works, see our methodology page or the deep-dive on how VCE ATAR is calculated.
Wondering which subjects scale up and which scale down? In VCE it's not about subject "difficulty" — scaling reflects how strong each subject's cohort is. Latin and Specialist Mathematics students typically perform strongly across all their subjects, so a raw study score of 35 in Latin scales to 50, while the same 35 in a subject like Health & Human Development scales to about 31. Read our breakdown of the best-scaling VCE subjects in 2025 and how to choose subjects without sacrificing your study score.
Once you have your ATAR estimate, the next question is always the same: what can I study with this? The university matching section above shows Victorian universities grouped by course type with indicative ATAR cutoffs. Your ATAR is a baseline — SEAS adjustment factors, subject increments and pathway programs can shift what's available to you. For specific course requirements, read our guides on ATAR for Medicine in Australia, ATAR for Law, and 2025 Victorian university cutoffs by course.
Your real ATAR is calculated and released by VTAC in mid-December. This estimate is built to be as close as possible, but it can't be literally exact because scaling depends on the actual cohort sitting VCE this year, which doesn't exist until results day. Use it for planning, university research and motivation, not as the final word. For more on year-to-year accuracy, read our explainer on how accurate ATAR calculators really are.
