Why this site exists

Every Australian student in Year 12 wonders the same thing: what's my ATAR going to be? Most existing calculators answer that question badly. Some ask for an email before showing your result. Some cover only one state. Some use scaling data from 5 years ago. Some are tutoring companies trying to convert you into a paying customer.

We built ATARCalculators because the gap was obvious — there wasn't one good, free, current, multi-state ATAR calculator in Australia. So we made one. All 8 states and territories. Updated whenever new official scaling reports are released. No signup, ever.

What we do

The site has three jobs:

  1. ATAR calculators for every Australian state and territory — NSW HSC, VIC VCE, QLD QCE, WA WACE, SA SACE, TAS TCE, ACT BSSS, and NT NTCET.
  2. Plain-English guides explaining how scaling, aggregates, and ATAR ranks actually work — because most explanations online are written for academics, not students.
  3. University cutoff data for the most-searched courses, with direct links to each uni's official page so you can verify everything yourself.

That's it. We're not selling a course, not running a tutoring service, not gathering email lists. The whole site is built around one job: helping students estimate their ATAR.

Who maintains this site

ATARCalculators is built and maintained by the ATARCalculators Editorial Team — an independent group that works with Australian senior-secondary and tertiary-admissions data. We're not academics-for-hire and not a tutoring brand; we're a small team focused on one thing: turning the official scaling and admissions reports into calculators and guides students can actually use.

So you know what stands behind every number on the site, here's how we work:

  • Every figure is sourced. Scaling factors, aggregate rules and university cutoffs come from official public reports — never from memory, guesswork, or other calculators. Each source is listed below and linked so you can check it yourself.
  • We verify against the original. New data is checked against the source report itself, not a summary of it, before it goes live — across UAC, VTAC, QTAC, SCSA, SATAC, TASC and BSSS, plus ACARA for NAPLAN.
  • We review on a schedule. Scaling reports are released each year; we update the calculators and re-check the guides when new reports land, and we date every page so you can see when it was last reviewed.
  • We correct quickly. If a reader flags an error, we verify it against the source and fix it — usually within a few days — rather than leaving stale numbers up.
  • We stay independent. No university, tutoring company or admissions body pays for placement or shapes our figures. The calculators are neutral and free.

You'll see the Editorial Team credited on our guides, each with a "last reviewed" date and the official sources behind it. Read the full methodology for exactly how we turn those reports into estimates.

What we believe

Students deserve accuracy

Year 12 is stressful enough without unreliable calculators giving misleading estimates. We only use the latest official scaling reports.

Data sources should be open

Every number we use is traceable to a public report from UAC, VTAC, QTAC, TISC, SATAC, TASC, or BSSS. We link to them so you can verify.

Privacy is non-negotiable

Your marks are yours. All calculations run in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server. We can't see, save, or share them.

Free means free

No "premium tier," no paywall, no email gate, no hidden feature unlock. Everything works for everyone, every time.

What we won't do

To be specific about what we're not:

  • We won't ask for your email in exchange for showing your ATAR.
  • We won't sell your data — because we don't collect any personal data to sell.
  • We won't fabricate testimonials or invent fake user counts to look popular.
  • We won't claim certifications we don't have — we're not endorsed by UAC, VTAC or any university.
  • We won't put critical features behind a paywall — every calculator stays free forever.

How this site is funded

Display advertising, served by reputable ad networks. That's the entire business model. Ads pay for the hosting, the data updates, and the work to maintain the calculators each year.

What this means for you:

  • You'll see ads on the page. They're standard text and display ads — no popups, no autoplay video, no anything obnoxious.
  • Ad networks use cookies to show relevant ads. You can read more in our privacy policy and opt out via your browser settings.
  • We don't promote tutoring companies, paid courses, or affiliate products. The calculators stay neutral.

Where our data comes from

Every scaling number, every ATAR conversion, every state-specific rule comes from official public reports. The eight sources we use:

How you can help

If something on this site is wrong, please tell us. Our biggest weakness is volume — we maintain calculators for 8 states, hundreds of subjects, and dozens of universities. If you spot:

  • A subject that's missing or named incorrectly
  • A scaling figure that looks off
  • A university cutoff that's outdated
  • A broken link or typo

Send us a note via the contact page. We update fast — usually within a few days.

One important thing

We are not affiliated with UAC, VTAC, QTAC, or any Australian university. We use their public data, but we're not endorsed by any of them. For your official ATAR, the final word comes from your state's tertiary admissions body — not from this site.

That's it. Thanks for using the site. If it helps you figure out your future, that's a good day for us.
