The University of Sydney uses the WAM (Weighted Average Mark) as its measure of academic performance and does not issue a GPA. Your WAM is the credit-weighted average of your actual marks: WAM = Σ(mark × credit points) ÷ total credit points.
Some overseas institutions and employers ask for a GPA. So this calculator also shows an indicative 7-point GPA. It uses standard bands. Treat it as a rough guide only. USYD's official advice is that there is no USYD GPA, and you should ask the requesting organisation for their preferred conversion.
USYD grade bands
| Grade | Mark range | GPA points |
|---|---|---|
| HD | 85–100 % | 7.0 |
| D | 75–84 % | 6.0 |
| C | 65–74 % | 5.0 |
| P | 50–64 % | 4.0 |
| F | 0–49 % | 0.0 |
Important: the University of Sydney does not calculate or issue an official GPA. The GPA above is an indicative figure using standard bands. If an organisation asks a USYD student for a GPA, USYD advises contacting them for their own conversion formula.
