What ATAR do you need for physiotherapy?

Undergraduate physiotherapy cut-offs usually run from about 90 to 98. It is a competitive health degree. And the exact figure depends on the university.

The major metropolitan universities tend to sit at the top of that range. Regional campuses and some newer programs can sit a little lower, especially once adjustment factors are applied.

Most physiotherapy programs do not use an admissions test. A small number interview or ask for a written statement, but for most, your ATAR and prerequisites decide the offer.

Prerequisites and what else matters

English is a common prerequisite. Many physiotherapy programs also expect a science, often biology or chemistry, and some prefer a level of maths.

Meeting the prerequisite matters as much as the ATAR. A student who clears the cut-off but is missing a required subject can still miss the offer, so check each course.

Because physiotherapy involves clinical placements, you will also need to meet non-academic requirements later, such as a police check and immunisations. These do not affect entry. But they are part of the course.

The postgraduate route

If your ATAR falls short of undergraduate entry, the postgraduate route is well established. You complete a relevant bachelor's degree, often in exercise or health science, then apply for a Master of Physiotherapy.

This route is judged on your university marks and any prerequisites, not your ATAR. For many students, it is a reliable second path into the profession.

Regional campuses and adjustment factors, such as a regional or equity scheme, also lift your selection rank toward the undergraduate cut-off.

Choosing a physiotherapy program

Physiotherapy is an accredited profession. So it is worth confirming a program is accredited for registration. Most university programs are. But it is worth checking.
